AltProteinX 2025 highlights the latest scientific advances and technological breakthroughs within plant-based proteins, fermentation and cultivated meat. The conference provides perspectives on how interdisciplinary collaboration can accelerate innovation and how alternative proteins can play a pivotal role in shaping a more sustainable food system. The conference is open to all – whether you are a young researcher wishing to share your latest findings, an academic exploring new frontiers, or an innovator from industry seeking fresh perspective. It is organized by the DTU National Food Institute and the student initiative DTU Alt Protein Project, powered by the Good Food Institute. The conference will be conducted in English.
Programme
The programme for AltProteinX 2025 offers a full day of keynotes from leading researchers and entrepreneurs, a panel debate, as well as showcases and poster sessions. In the morning, in the Demant Hall at DTU Lyngby Campus, the latest perspectives on interdisciplinary research, innovation, and sustainability within alternative proteins will be presented. In the afternoon, in the Biosphere at the DTU National Food Institute, the conference continues with networking, breakout sessions, and an exhibition of current projects and solutions. The day concludes with the award for best poster and a joint wrap-up. See the full programme.
What are alternative proteins?
Alternative proteins are a growing category of food products developed to replace conventional animal-based foods through more sustainable, ethical, and innovative approaches. They include plant-based products, fermentation-enabled ingredients, and cultivated animal cells. As demand for protein continues to grow, alternative proteins offer a promising path toward a more resilient and climate-friendly food system – and a central focus for the discussions at AltProteinX 2025.
Submit your poster by 5 October
You are invited to contribute to the conference poster session – an opportunity to share your research, exchange ideas and connect with both academics and industry stakeholders. Abstracts will be selected within areas such as technology, nutrition, environmental impact, consumer insights and global protein innovation. Please submit your poster abstract to AltProteinX@food.dtu.dk no later than 5 October 2025.
Breakout seminars
A series of breakout seminars at AltProteinX 2025 will showcase the latest research and innovation within the alternative protein space. These seminars will feature everything from emerging technologies and case studies to discussions on future challenges and solutions.
