Launch of new Nordic study on lifestyle habits
The Nordic Council of Ministers will on 2 December 2025 launch the new round of NORMO – the joint Nordic monitoring of diet, physical activity and overweight/obesity.
The study, carried out among others by the DTU National Food Institute, sheds light on health-related behaviours in selected areas and thus indicates where there may be a need for health promotion initiatives, for example in relation to preventing diseases such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
Working with researchers from Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, the DTU National Food Institute has carried out another joint Nordic population survey (NORMO) for the Nordic Council of Ministers. Sisse Fagt is part of the Danish working group and will contribute to the launch of the study on 2 December 2025 in Copenhagen.
On this occasion, the Nordic Council of Ministers is bringing together decision-makers and experts in Copenhagen to present the latest Nordic monitoring data and discuss possible courses of action across public authorities, educational institutions, civil society and the private sector.
Why is the study relevant?
- Comparable Nordic data: Harmonised methods provide a common basis for assessing developments across countries.
- Overview of emerging behaviour patterns: Covers, among other things, energy drinks, physical inactivity and use of tobacco and nicotine products.
- Better basis for decision-making: Supports the prioritisation and planning of health promotion initiatives across authorities, schools, civil society and the private sector.
- Time series: Makes it possible to follow trends over time and identify areas where action is needed.
The study is a repeated cross-sectional survey based on random samples drawn from the national population registers. In 2024, around 1,000 adults and 500 children were invited in each country. Data were collected using a combination of computer-assisted telephone interviews and online questionnaires, and responses were weighted for age, sex and education so that the results are representative at population level in each country and can be compared across the Nordic RegionAbout the study
NORMO monitors developments in the Nordic countries among children (7–12 years) and adults (18–65 years) in relation to diet, physical activity and overweight/obesity as well as alcohol, tobacco and nicotine products. The survey was carried out in 2011, 2014 and 2024.
