PhD defence on food fortification with vitamin D

Nutrition and dietary habits Health-promoting compounds

The National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark, invites you to Katja Howarth Madsen’s PhD defence on how fortification of milk and bread with vitamin D affects the vitamin D level in a group of families with children. The defence takes place on 7 February at 13:00 hours.

D vitamin is an important factor in ensuring healthy bones. A lack of it may result in soft and fragile bones, and ultimately in osteoporosis. You get vitamin D from sun exposure, food and supplements. In winter time we depend on food to supply vitamin D, however, the vitamin D intake in Denmark is lower than the recommended intake. Thus, food fortification is a way to increase the intake of vitamin D.

In her PhD project, Katja Howarth Madsen investigated how fortification of milk and bread with vitamin D affects the level of vitamin D in the blood of a group of Danish families with children.
