At the end of May and beginning of June 2024, the DTU National Food Institute is hosting two courses in genomic sequencing at DTU Lyngby Campus. The courses are relevant for PhD students and professionals in the food and health industries.
Mastering whole genome sequencing and metagenomics using Oxford nanopore long read sequencing. Bench-lab training – 27 to 31 May 2024
This is a specially designed course on Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT), where you will learn about "long-read sequencing" – a technique currently transforming genetic research and diagnostics. The course includes very minimal theoretical instruction and mainly practical bench-lab sessions with the latest ONT equipment. With such practice, you will gain hands-on experience with the latest equipment and learn techniques ranging from whole genome sequencing of bacteria to metagenomic analyses of faeces.
Whole genome sequencing analysis for microbial diagnostic, identification, and cluster analysis – 3 to 6 June 2024
(The course is a natural extension of the previous course but can also be taken as a standalone programme).
The course is about whole genome sequencing (WGS) – a crucial technique within both research and industry. Over four intensive days, you will gain a deeper understanding of the applications of WGS, from tracking disease outbreaks and monitoring antibiotic resistance, to identifying pathogens in food and feed. The course combines theory with practical computer exercises, so you gain both an understanding of and practical experience with WGS data analysis.

The courses are designed for PhD students and professionals in the food and health sectors, regardless of previous experience and background.
