The National Food Institute, a department at DTU, invites applications for a position as professor in chemistry of sustainable and healthy foods.

 

The department conducts research in sustainable and value-adding solutions in the area of food and health for the benefit of society. The Institute’s vision is to prevent disease and promote health, develop new and better food products for a growing population, and create sustainable technological solutions. Innovative use of multiple data from various chemical analyses, targeted or untargeted, is crucial to reaching the goals of sustainable and healthy foods.

 

We seek an ambitious internationally renowned scientist for a full professorship to consolidate chemical research at the department at an international level. The professor will head the research group in Analytical Food Chemistry.

 

The successful candidate is expected to lead the development of chemical research at the department with a focus on combining accurate mass spectrometry with emerging technologies and data processing. The research can cover screening methods, metabolomics, and authenticity, among others, in order to provide knowledge to improve food and health science.

 

You will bring the field to the forefront of food science using analytical chemistry. Challenges within studies of metabolic networks in humans, in the microbiome, authenticity of foods, analytical strategies within food science or emerging challenges regarding food constituents of good or bad character will be relevant for the department.

 
Responsibilities and tasks

You should have a clear vision for the research field, the development of the research group and the collaboration within DTU and abroad.

 

You are expected to manage a research group for Chemical Food Chemistry with about 20 staff members. The research disposes over more than 20 different analytical instruments including Q-TOFs and LC-MSs/GC-MSs. The research group is responsible for two out of four European Reference laboratories at the department.

 

You will be involved in scientific advice for authorities as well as working closely with industrial partners. You will also be involved in teaching activities at BSc, MSc, and PhD levels. For international candidates, DTU can provide Danish language courses enabling the candidates to teach in Danish within 2-3 years.

 
Qualifications

To be successful in applying for the professorship and subsequently to fulfil the job, you should have a clear vision for the analytical food chemistry. You should have a clear strategy for which collaborators at other research institutions to engage with, with which industries to initiate collaboration with, and how to provide advice to governmental agencies on the newest knowledge in the food chemistry field.

 

In order to be able to fulfil these aims, you should be an experienced leader of chemical research projects, in charge of analytical infrastructure and have good experience with management.

In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:
  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research impact and experience, funding track record and research vision
  • Societal impact
  • Documented innovation activities, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • International impact and experience
  • Leadership and collaboration
  • Communication skills
Consideration will also be given to:
  • Scientific production at international level, research potential and ability to lead and develop a research team
  • Visions for and a track record in attracting funding to the research area
  • The ability to utilize research results in advising governmental agencies or innovation activities towards industries
  • Leadership experience with a focus on research management and management of large analytical infrastructures (service and operational management)
  • An ambition to develop talent at all levels in a research group.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
