The National Food Institute (DTU FOOD), a department at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), invites applications for a position as post doc in the Research Group for NanoBio Science. The research group has a dynamic staff with high international visibility, many research collaborations with leading international universities and industry partners and the group has a successful track record of national and international research projects.

 

The research group aims to contribute to the development of healthy and safe foods and functional ingredients via research on nano- and micro-structured materials and trace elements. Particular focus areas are on studies of trace elements in the food and feed chain primarily through ICPMS-based techniques, analytical characterization of nanoparticles, and synthesis of functionalized nano-/micro-structures.

 

You will be part of an experienced and dynamic team housed in new laboratories with a state-of-the-art analytical platform. The group has an extensive, interdisciplinary collaboration with other research groups at DTU Food.

 
Responsibilities and tasks

A major part of the candidate’s activities will be related to the newly established European Reference Laboratory for metals and nitrogenous compounds in food and feed (EURL-MN), which is hosted by DTU Food (www.eurl-mn.eu). Here the candidate will contribute to the research activities within the field of trace elements and nitrogenous compounds in food and feed .The activities will at first be linked to studies on the stability and analysis of nitrate/nitrite in food and feed and then involve activities within the trace element research area. The candidate may also be involved in other research activities and projects within the research field of the group.

  • scientific advice of public authorities

The group has an extensive, cross-disciplinary collaboration with other research groups at DTU as well as national and international research partners and the candidate will be responsible for utilizing such collaboration to strengthen the group’s position.

 

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. The candidate is expected to have solid knowledge of and experience within analytical chemistry at trace levels with focus on analysis of biological materials. The preferred candidate is ambitious, has a high motivation for research excellence and good command of written and spoken English.

 

Priority will be given to applicants with documented experience in and knowledge of one or more of the following areas:

  • General food/feed analytical chemistry
  • Liquid/ion chromatography (LC/IC) techniques for food/feed analysis
  • Use of ICPMS and other analytical techniques related to trace element analysis
  • Laboratory accreditation (ISO17025) and analytical quality assurance
  • International networking and collaboration skills obtained through e.g. international projects and networks

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

 

The period of employment is 3 years.

 

The successful candidate is expected to start in the beginning of 2020.
