Last chance to register for the conference on botanicals in food

The registration deadline for next month's conference on the use of botanicals in food supplements and foods has been extended until 10 November in order to give more people the chance to participate. Registrations have already been received from all around the world from people wanting to gain knowledge about state-of-the-art risk assessment and regulation in this area from speakers from Denmark, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany and the U.S.A. The conference takes place on 19-20 November 2014 in the Copenhagen area of Denmark and is organised by the National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark, in cooperation with the French institute for risk assessment, ANSES, and the equivalent German institute, BfR.

Botanicals - mainly plants but also algae, fungi (mushrooms) and lichens - have gained popularity as ingredients in food supplements that are sold in retail stores but also on the internet. Botanicals are lately also collected from the wild and used in ordinary food.

However, some botanicals or botanical preparations may pose a risk to human health, and safety data on botanicals is usually limited compared to data for e.g. assessment of food additives. Safety assessment of botanicals and preparations thereof used in food supplements is not subject to EU regulation but to management by national food authorities in member states.
Join the international conference on botanicals in food to gain knowledge and participate in discussions about state-of-the-art risk assessment and regulation. More than 100 people from around the world have already signed up.

Speakers come from the National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark, the French institute for risk assessment (ANSES), the equivalent German institute (BfR), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the Federal Public Service (FPS) Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment in Belgium, University of Milan in Italy, Bispebjerg Hospital in Denmark, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, the European Commission and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
