The National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark, is celebrating its 60th anniversary by inviting cooperation partners to an Open Day on 11 June 2019 where visitors can hear about, see and taste the institute’s research.

On 5 June 2019, it will be 60 years since Denmark passed the law on establishing an institute for food, thus sowing the seed for a large part of what is now the National Food Institute. To help celebrate its birthday, the institute is inviting cooperation partners to an Open Day on 11 June.

There will be an opportunity to visit different parts of the institute’s facilities. You can e.g. visit the mega-laboratory for research in the field of microbial biotechnology and biorefining, have a look at the sensory laboratories including the facilities for consumer research and visit the institute’s Pilot Plant. The Pilot Plant is set up as a test hall, where it is possible to work with production processes on the type of machines, which the industry uses but on a smaller scale.

In the Biosphere in building 202, the institute’s employees will present different areas of research, innovation projects, research-based consultancy and business-relevant study activities at different stands. You can e.g. hear about sustainable diets, how QSAR-models can predict the harmful effects of chemicals and how the gut microbiota can affect the body’s uptake of and sensitivity towards chemicals.

It will also be possible to hear short presentations on ongoing activities, results obtained and future perspectives—e.g. on food allergies, risk-benefit assessments of food and cell factories, which can facilitate sustainable use of by-products from the dairy industry.

Refreshments will be served during the day.

The detailed programme will follow.
