Global food safety on the agenda

Food, fish and agriculture Food safety

Professionals from all over the world are gathered in Sweden and Denmark at a conference focusing on how the use of science and technology can enhance food safety globally. The conference, which takes place both at Lund University and the Technical University of Denmark, focuses on topics such as food fraud, antimicrobial resistance, combating foodborne diseases and sustainable food production. Many of the conference speakers are from the National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark.

How are consumers protected against buying food packaging containing hazardous substances? And how do consumers avoid buying food that is not what it claims to be? These are some of the many subjects which approximately 150 professionals from all over the world meet to discuss at the three day long GoFood conference in Sweden and Denmark from 31 May to 2 June 2017.

Several of the speakers are from the National Food Institute. They will, among other things, talk about systems to monitor the occurrence of antimicrobial resistance globally, methods to quickly detect disease-causing microorganisms, ways to boost people’s fish intake and methods of calculating the actual burden of illness from toxoplasmosis.

The first two days of the conference take place in Lund, while the last day will take place at the Technical University of Denmark’s Lyngby Campus. Participants come from universities, authorities and the industry.

The conference is organized by the newly established joint Centre of Excellence in Food Safety. The centre is founded by the National Food Institute, Lund University, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and University of Bologna.

This is the second conference on global food safety and technology which the partners have organized. The first was held in Hong Kong in February 2016.
