Conference with a focus on microbial ingredients

Food, fish and agriculture Food production Food technology Health-promoting compounds

The latest knowledge about microbial ingredients will be presented at the first international conference on the subject, which takes place in Copenhagen from 2-4 May 2018. The National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark, is co-organizer of the conference.

The World Health Organization, WHO, expects the world population to grow from the current seven billion to 9.5 billion by 2050. As demand for food grows, there will also be an increased demand for new ingredients—especially ingredients that can minimize wastage, optimize flavor and consistency as well as add health-promoting properties to food.

An international conference, which takes place in Copenhagen 2-4 May 2018, will focus on the latest research within the development and use of microbial food and feed ingredients. The conference will also showcase the world's leading ingredient producers' initiatives and experiences in this field.

Microbial ingredients may be microorganisms, such as lactic acid bacteria or starter cultures that are added to food and feed. Microbial ingredients may also be probiotics or ingredients made using a microorganism, such as enzymes, peptides or metabolites.

At the conference, Danish and international experts will have the opportunity to share and discuss their experiences. They will talk about the factors that can help in the development of future ingredients as well as how knowledge about the influence of ingredients on the microbiome can be utilized to make people and animals healthier. They will also talk about how by-products can be used in the development of ingredients that can reduce global food waste.

The National Food Institute is co-organizer of the conference, which is relevant to persons to persons from research institutions, authorities, industry and journalists with an interest in this field.
