A new Memorandum of Cooperation between DTU and the Food Safety Commission of Japan will strengthen Denmark and Japan’s scientific cooperation in the area of food safety.

DTU and the Food Safety Commission of Japan, FSCJ, have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. The National Food Institute will head up the partnership in Denmark.

The memorandum was signed by the Director of the National Food Institute, Christine Nellemann at a ceremony at DTU on Monday, 19 March 2018. The ceremony was attended by Japan’s ambassador to Denmark, Toshiro Suzuki, DTU’s President, Anders Bjarklev and the Danish Food and Veterinary Administration’s Chief Food Inspection Officer, Annelise Fenger

The agreement will strengthen the scientific cooperation between food safety experts in the two countries. The agreement makes it possible for the two organizations to share their experiences and knowledge within the areas of risk assessment, risk monitoring, data collection, research and risk communication.

As part of the agreement, the organizations will also offer further training in relevant areas of risk assessment. Furthermore, there will be opportunities for the two organizations' employees to go on exchange to learn about the way risk assessments are carried out in the respective organizations.

The cooperation agreement comes following the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Denmark, which the countries celebrated in 2017.
