The National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark, is hosting Professor Tine Rask Licht’s inaugural lecture on Friday 22 January 2016. Tine Rask Licht will give a lecture on background, status and prospects of her research in gut microbiology. The general aim of her research is to understand the relation between diet, gut microorganisms and human health.
Each person has his/her own unique composition of bacteria in the gut. Several studies indicate that gut bacteria are of great importance for our health and may play a role for development of a number of diseases related to the immune and hormone systems, e.g. allergies and diabetes.
In addition, it is known that diet affects bacterial composition as well as bacterial activity in the gut. Thus, there is a need to elucidate how and why different diet types, food ingredients and food contaminants, through their effects on gut bacteria, influence human health and risk of diseases. The aim of the research is to define better and more individualised strategies for promotion of a healthy bacterial population in the gut.
Come and hear Tine Rask Licht’s inaugural lecture, which focuses on how diet affects the composition of gut bacteria and their importance for human health. The lecture is entitled “Gut feelings – The microbial world within us” and is held in English.
