A postdoc position is available at DTU Food in the Research Group of Genomic Epidemiology. The group is EU and WHO Reference Laboratory for antimicrobial resistance and combines activities on development and implementation of whole genome and community sequencing, bioinformatics and epidemiological modeling of the occurrence of human and zoonotic microbiological hazards both at a national and global perspective.
We offer a postdoc position from May 2017 with duration of three years. The position is affiliated with an initiative funded by the Ministry of Food Agriculture and Fisheries with the overall aim to establish the scientific basis for predicting the effect of interventions of antimicrobial usage in pig herds on the occurrence of resistance genes having the potential to be transferred to zoonotic pathogens.
Responsibilities and tasks
The postdoc will be part of a project aiming to develop mathematical models that predicts how the usage of antimicrobial in pig herds influence the occurrence of zoonotic antimicrobial resistant genes and organisms, and estimates the expected effect of selected intervention strategies. The models will apply data from various sources including observational studies and complete genomic sequencing and quantification of all known resistance genes collected as part of the overall initiative, as well as data from relevant registries such as VetStat that collects data on antimicrobial usage at farm level. An important part of the project is to develop epidemiological models making optimal use of the large amount of data resulting from whole genome sequencing and whole community sequencing of bacterial populations in animals, humans and the environment. Focus is on the occurrence and transmission of resistant bacteria and genes coding for resistance and how different factors (such as antimicrobial usage) influence the occurrence.
The group has as WHO and EU reference laboratory a large global network and the successful candidate will be able to work with scientists from several other disciplines.
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. The candidates should also have a solid background in quantitative epidemiology and experience in mathematical modelling of large and complex data sets.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years with opportunities for extension.
