The National Food Institute DTU offer a position as researcher in the Research group for Analytical Food Chemistry to focus on organic contaminants in food and feed.

Analytical food Chemistry contribute trust in our food by development of reliable, efficient and sensitive chemical analyses that provide the relevant data needed for insight in food and health. Our research is based upon advanced analytical methods, quality assurance and modelling.

The position as researcher is a permanent entry-level position.

A significant part of the group’s activities are as reference laboratory according to EU regulation 882/2004 and 625/2017: Danish National Reference Laboratories (NRL) for most chemicals in food and as European reference laboratory for pesticide residues in cereals in food and feeding stuff (EURL-CF) and from 2018 also as European reference laboratory for process contaminants in food and feed (EURL-PC) and contribution to the European reference laboratory for metal and nitrogenous compounds in food and feed (EURL-MN) also hosted by the institute.

You will be part of an experienced and dynamic team housed in new laboratories with and extensive analytical platform. The group is accredited by DANAK according to ISO 17025 and 17043. The group also has an extensive, interdisciplinary collaboration with other research groups at DTU Food and the candidate is expected to participate and develop our collaboration to strengthen the group’s position at DTU.

Responsibilities and tasks
The candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the research area within the group. You are expected to focus on process contaminants in food and feed including occurrence and mitigation polycyclic aromatic compounds and other relevant groups of compounds like furans, 3-MCPDesters, acrylamide etc.

Your tasks will include working for the European reference laboratories that involve international collaboration with official laboratories in all EU member states as well as in 3rd countries. A part of the EURL activities are to develop methods and provide proficiency test within the scope, international training and scientific advice to the EU commission.

Candidates is expected to contribute to develop the research fields, attract research funds and to engage in innovation activities with industrial partners.

The position will include responsibilities for conducting research based teaching and research based consultancy to businesses and authorities.

The successful candidates should have a PhD degree or document equivalent research and is expected to have solid knowledge and experience with analysis at trace level and food chemistry and technology. The preferred candidate is ambitious, has a high motivation for research excellence and good command of written and spoken English.

Required skills include:
  • Analytical mass spectrometry at trace level both GC- and LC-MS techniques
  • Understanding of food chemistry and formation of process contaminants
  • Candidate’s potential to develop the research area and on original scientific production at international level
  • Quality assurance, ISO 17025 and proficiency test
  • Research planning, chemometrics and statistics

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The position as researcher is a permanent entry-level position. After a maximum of 4 years, a researcher can be promoted to a senior researcher position after assessment. More information can be found here: Career paths at DTU.
