The National Food Institute’s research and advisory services contribute to a better understanding of the mechanism of actions of chemicals in the environment – and possible health effects in humans after exposure to these chemicals.
The chemicals on which our research focuses include compounds present in food, environment or consumer products from industrial or private household use or as natural ingredients.
In our evaluations and risk assessments, we use hazard assessment data from humans, animal studies, and cell or computer models followed by a hazard characterisation in combination with exposure assessment.
The risk assessments comprise a thorough scientific basis for our environmental health consultancy services to the Danish authorities. This includes consultancy on the health risk to humans exposed to chemicals and genetically modified organisms and products.
